I messaged one of my mentors this morning with the following:
“I’m going into assassin mode in business. It’s one thing to try and build for yourself. It’s another thing to build for the people that are around you and that external motivation when you have a partner. I’ve been missing the tap into the legacy I want to leave for my future family. When you said to me, ‘I’m building my 100-year legacy,’ I get that now. Thank you for demonstrating and showing me what that looks like.”
Why is this such a crucial moment in business for me? I’ve watched those ahead of me demonstrate what drives them. I never really understood it. I’ve never really been able to tap into that legacy play of wanting to push myself into another gear because I haven’t really ever tapped into what I want. It’s taken me 5 years to really understand this. Personally, I have everything I need. But what about that future family? They won’t have everything they need at the level I’m playing at now. That shit hits differently. That shit starts to make you think.
My mentor said to me at an event that he and his partner are creating a 100-year legacy plan. 100 years? I couldn’t even think past this year. I lacked sight of the future drive. Some of it was written, but I couldn’t feel it. And it’s in that feeling of the future that allows you to pull it into existence. Some of this might sound “woo-woo.” I’ve been there, I’ve felt that too. But I’m starting to understand that the actions I put in today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year will dictate whether I’m able to give my family everything they’ll need.
So, this is simply a declaration for me that things are about to get real. And not just for me, because that has only driven me this far. This is for my future family.
